Chatham returns to Veterans Field on Friday looking to snap a four-game winless streak, this time facing Yarmouth-Dennis in their second meeting this season. Before an off-day, the Anglers dropped a 9-1 loss to Brewster after allowing seven runs in the final two innings, but the Red Sox also enter with just one win in their last four games.

Y-D leads the Cape Cod Baseball League with four ties, the result in three of their previous four, and last lost a game when Cotuit pounded out 16 runs and 18 hits against the Red Sox on June 25. It's the second of six meetings this season between the East Division opponents, and the first at home for the Anglers.

Probable Pitchers

Two of Chatham's three pitchers against the Red Sox are Victor Mederos and Daniel Federman ' both Miami teammates ' and Federman will open as the starter. Mederos started the Anglers' season-opener on June 20, allowing four runs in 2.1 innings, but then added two innings of scoreless relief in Chatham's win over Hyannis six days later.

Federman has been one of the team's top arms this season, starting in one game and finishing another while allowing just an unearned run and striking out 10 batters. His .130 batting average against ranks seventh in the Cape Cod Baseball League ' just ahead of fellow Chatham pitchers Garrett Crowley and Adam Tulloch.

Adam Maier, who didn't have a season this year with the University of British Columbia, makes his second Cape League start against the Anglers, coming nine days after he took the loss against Wareham. In five innings pitched, Maier allowed four runs on four hits and struck out two batters, surrendering a three-run home run in the third inning. But back at British Columbia during the 2019-20 season, his most recent one with the Thunderbirds, he went undefeated in five pitching appearances while also playing in 17 games as a hitter. He held his ERA to 2.84, and struck out eight hitters in five innings against Oregon Tech on March 1, 2020.

Chatham Players to Watch

Andrew Benefield (Dallas Baptist) tied for Chatham's leader in home runs when he lifted a hanging pitch to left field, and avoided slicing past the foul pole before clearing the fence against Brewster. All three of his hits since arriving on the Cape have been for extra bases, and he's injected a powerful bat into the Anglers' lineup once they lost Caden Grice and Kevin Parada to Team USA. His six RBI are also one short of Lyle Miller-Green's (Chipola College) team-leading seven.

Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) snapped an 0-for-13 skid at the plate by rattling off three consecutive singles to close Wednesday's game. He leads Chatham with 10 hits and three stolen bases, and his ability to reach base fuels the Anglers' ability to advance him into scoring position and score ' especially with his rise to No. 2 in the order, where he's placed ahead of their power hitters.

Yarmouth-Dennis Players to Watch

Brooks Lee and his .389 batting average rank third in the CCBL, and has helped pace the Red Sox's offense through the nine games he's appeared in. He's also tied atop the league rankings for total hits, as he's knocked 14 in 36 at-bats.

Peyton Graham sits tied with Lee for first in the league in hits, including five in his last two. He went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a home run in Y-D's 6-4 win over Harwich on June 29, and accumulated a hit and a run the last time the Red Sox played the Anglers. Graham's .579 slugging percentage is second on the team, trailing only Lee, and ranks fifth in the CCBL, though all but one of the right-handed batter's hits, and all but two of his balls put in play, have gone to left field.

While Chatham has struggled with strikeouts this season, it's also an area the Red Sox have been plagued by, too. They've struck out 103 times, just one fewer than the Anglers, and have ended four games with 10 or more at the plate.

In a rain-defined, and then rain-shortened, game on June 22, one swing from Briley Knight, the No. 9 hitter, in the second inning drove in all three runs and withstood a Chatham comeback in a 3-2 loss. Jake DeLeo had three hits and scored twice for the Anglers, while Caden Grice and Kevin Parada both drove in a run. Out of the bullpen, Adam Tulloch and Cade Winquest combined to throw five innings of one-hit ball for the Anglers.
