The Chatham Anglers head back to Veterans Field after their worst loss of the season to face the Hyannis Harbor Hawks for the first time this season. The Harbor Hawks, also coming off a loss, are currently last in the West Division and tied for the worst record in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

This is the third game in a row where the Anglers play a team with a team batting average under .200, although they allowed five runs to that team (Brewster) on Friday. The Harbor Hawks average just over six hits per game, scoring 12 runs over four games this season.

The Anglers have fared better in three earlier games this season, scoring 17 runs in their three non-losses but just two in their two losses.

Probable Pitchers

Victor Mederos comes back for his second start of the season after starting the season-opener at Falmouth. He struggled in his debut, giving up three earned runs in 2.1 innings. At Miami this year, Mederos had a 5.11 ERA over 41 innings.

Jaylen Nowlin, a former college teammate of Chatham players Lyle Miller-Green and Matt Garcia, will take the mound for Hyannis tonight in his season debut. At Chipola, Nowlin never started a game but emerged as a long reliever, pitching at least three innings in three of his eight appearances. He averaged 14 strikeouts per nine innings to go along with a 3.00 ERA.

Chatham Players to Watch

Daniel Federman pitched the final three innings of Mederos' last start, giving up no runs and two hits while striking out six in the Anglers' tie with the Commodores. Over 46.1 innings at Miami this season, he struck out 39 batters with a 4.08 ERA.

Caden Grice continues to be the best offensive player on the Anglers, even when the rest of the hitters struggle. Grice leads the team with two home runs and a .400 average, getting on base in different situations and scoring five runs along with three RBI.

Hyannis players to watch

Zane Harris has appeared in three games for the Harbor Hawks this year, posting a 364 batting average. Harris has hit the team's lone home run this season, a solo blast in its 4-3 loss to Falmouth on Friday.

Dylan Post is another strong hitter for the Harbor Hawks, sporting a 1.292 OPS over three games. The catcher hit .250 as a reserve at Houston this year, but has received high praises from coaches and scouts, including an inclusion on a 2022 MLB draft watchlist.

Stat to know ' 54

The Anglers' 54 strikeouts on offense lead the Cape League, and it hurt them in Friday's 5-2 loss to Brewster ' where they struck out 14 times. After the game, catcher John Michael Faile said it was a major problem that needs to be addressed, echoing manager Tom Holliday's sentiments from a post-game team meeting.

Last time they played

A seven-run fourth inning pushed Chatham over the Harbor Hawks, 4-1, in a July 2019 meeting at Veterans Field. With a 1-1 tie, Alex Toral hit a two-run single to push the Anglers ahead and give them a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Luke Bartnicki started, going four innings and allowing four baserunners while striking out four.
