The matchup appears ideal for Chatham, whose pitching staff has the third best opponent batting average in the league (.187), while the Whitecaps have the worst team batting average by over 40 points (.167).

Probable pitchers

Sebastian Keane (Northeastern) will make his first appearance on the mound in Chatham. The sophomore was drafted by the Red Sox in the 11th round in 2019, but opted to play college ball rather than sign, becoming the first Northeastern pitcher to do so.

Keane had the ability to pitch longer at NU, averaging almost six innings per outing with three games of at least seven. Manager Tom Holliday doesn't intend to have him pitch more than three, but it could be indicative of his ability to stay consistent over those three.

The North Andover native struck out 73 batters in 70.1 innings, finishing seventh in the Colonial Athletic Conference.

Teddy McGraw will make his first start since high school after coming out of the bullpen for Wake Forest this past season. McGraw pitched two innings just twice this past season, giving up three runs in the first and a no-hit, five-strikeout performance in the second.

Chatham players to watch

Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) has started in center field all three games, moving up in the batting order from eighth to fifth to eventually second Tuesday night at Y-D. The freshman had three hits against the Red Sox and scored both of Chatham's runs, including going from first to home on an error.

Caeden Trenkle (Oklahoma State) was activated for Wednesday's game after finally arriving on the Cape. Every other position player on the roster has started a game ' Holliday said he likes to let everyone play within the first few games. He may make an appearance tonight.

The freshman hit 21 extra base hits over 52 games, slugging .439 along with 51 runs scored at Oklahoma State.

Brewster players to watch

Colin Davis has by far been the Whitecaps' best player this season with a .571 average and three stolen bases. He's struck out just once and reached base in five of his eight plate appearances. The senior batted .351 at Wofford this season.

After COVID-19 shortened an All-American freshman year at Coastal Carolina, Weiss struggled to find his footing in his first full season. He started all 44 games he played, but batted just .208 on the season with nearly twice as many strikeouts (57) as hits (30). Weiss has played well to start the Cape League season, though, and looks to continue that hot streak.

Cooper Weiss might not be getting on base at the same clip as Davis, but he's had a similar impact on the team. Weiss has hit the team's lone home run so far ' and one of its three combined RBI.

The pitching staff might have excellent strikeout rates, but the offense has the second-most strikeouts in the league, one behind Y-D's 30. Lyle Miller-Green, Chatham's best batter so far, has struck out six times. Johnny Castagnozzi hit a home run on Monday, but nearly half of his at-bats have ended in strikeouts. Brewster's pitchers haven't yet shown that they can strike out batters at a high rate, but the Anglers will face multiple pitchers likely making their Cape League debut tonight.

Last time they played

Chatham's pitching staff 'broke down' in its 8-5 loss in a 2019 makeup game on July 30, Holliday said. Ty Madden started the appearance off strong, but the later pitchers blew a 5-0 lead, and the offense didn't score again after the third inning.
