Anglers announce 2021 roster

The Chatham Anglers have released their permanent and temporary rosters for the 2021 season, the 58th season of the Cape Cod Baseball League's modern era and 98th for the Anglers at Veteran's Field. Three players return from the 2019 season ' Texas pitchers Kolby Kubichek and Dawson Merryman, and NC Central's Austin Vernon ' on the temporary roster, and Tom Holliday returns to lead the Anglers in his third Cape League season.

Kubichek started in the final game of the Anglers' 2019 season, finishing with a 0.90 ERA over 30 innings. Merryman went 2-0 over 15 pitching appearances.

This season's roster features three players from No. 1 Arkansas, including Patrick Wicklander, whose 1.89 ERA is 11th in the nation among starting pitchers. Outfielder Brady Slavens' 60 RBI lead the Razorbacks and is top 10 in the nation. Nine different players come from teams that finished the NCAA regular season in the top 25, and 29 players made college baseball's NCAA tournament.

Ethan Long, listed on the roster as a right-handed pitcher, ranks 39th and 10th nationally with a .385 batting average and 10 home runs, respectively. The Arizona State freshman also sits 13th in slugging percentage at .725, and he ranked first in that category less than two weeks ago. Georgia Tech's Kevin Parada, one of Georgia Tech's catchers, has accumulated 20 doubles during the 2021 season, which is the 13th-best total this season.

And Maxwell Romero Jr. has appeared in 18 games this season for No. 3 Vanderbilt, hitting .286 in 49 at-bats.

Twelve groups of college teammates ' from Maryland and Washington to Arkansas and Oklahoma State ' will be reunited in Chatham this summer, and the Anglers open their season at Falmouth on June 20. The team then returns to Veteran's Field the following night to play Orleans, the second of a 40-game regular season.

Admission is free to all Anglers games at Veterans Field, and donations are welcome. Every regular season and postseason game is broadcasted live on the Cape Cod Baseball Network.
