Cape Cod Baseball League cancels 2020 season

Four days after reaffirming its plan to start on time, the Cape Cod Baseball League announced the cancelation of its 2020 season on Friday. A unanimous decision by the league’s executive committee was based on “health concerns and safety needs of all involved,” the league wrote in it's statement

They determined that it would be impossible to comply with CDC guidelines regarding the coronavirus and guarantee everyone’s safety — including players, coaches, umpires, host families, volunteers and fans.

After the College World Series and collegiate baseball was canceled on March 12, the league waited “as long as they could” and considered several alternative options, said Chatham Athletic Association President Steve West. The Anglers’ opener was scheduled for June 13 against Falmouth, but ultimately too many safety obstacles arose.

“It’s with great sadness that I send this email to report that today the Cape Cod Baseball League Executive Board unanimously voted to cancel the 2020 summer Cape League season,” West wrote. “While we all wanted the 2020 Summer Cape League season to occur, we will now have to wait until 2021 to see the return of summer Cape League baseball to Chatham.”
