After losing three straight games eariler this week, Chatham has rebounded with a three-game winning streak in response. In its last three games, the Anglers have outscored their opponents, 14-6. 

The first game of the two’s home-and-home series ended in a 4-2 win for the A’s. Chatham picked up three of its four runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by two bunt singles that not only moved runners over but put more on.

Probable pitchers

Cole Ayers (State College of Florida) will get the start for Chatham. The 6-foot-2 right hander comes into Tuesday with a 3.72 ERA. His last outing was tied for his longest (five innings), but he was credited for the loss after allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Ayers also has 16 strikeouts in 19.1 innings this season.

Mason Hazelwood (Kentucky) is expected to come in relief on Monday. The lefty has been one of the most consistent pitchers for the Anglers, allowing four earned runs in 16.2 innings this season. Hazelwood said he’d like to contest for the Anglers strikeout record this year. He’s averaging almost two strikeouts an inning with 26 on the season, the second most on the A’s.

Chance Huff (Vanderbilt) will pitch in his second game of the season after winning the college world series with Vanderbilt. In his lone appearance, Huff allowed four earned runs through four outs. 

Player to watch

Alex Toral (Miami) has six hits through the last five games, even before the Chatham offense heated up. Last night, Toral drove in two runs on a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly. He’s raised his average to .212 and even though he was one of college baseball’s home run leaders, his focus now is getting good contact.

“I'm just trying to hit line drives up the middle,” Toral said on Monday.

Stat to know — 38

Brewster is one of the Cape League’s worst fielding teams with 38 errors and a .961 fielding percentage. The only team worse than the Whitecaps is Hyannis, who has just six wins on the season.
