Kettleers Trounce A's, 13-2
The slow start to the A's 2008 season got even worse Friday evening at Lowell Park, as Cotuit scored 13 runs, capitalizing on control issues from Chatham pitchers. The tone was set in the first inning, when Robbie Shields singled, stole second, and scored the first run of the game on two wild pitches from David Hale. Hale, who threw four shutout innings against Hyannis in the season opener, struggled against the 1st place Kettleers. Auburn's Mike Bianucci cracked a two run homer to right in the bottom of the 2nd. With the momentum firmly in favor of Cotuit, they added five more in the third, one in the fourth, and four more in the sixth. Hale only lasted an two and one third innings, and allowed six runs.

Facing the reigning Cape League pitcher of the week in Nick Hernandez, the A's bats managed little offense, as the University of Tennessee lefthander threw six effective innings, striking out four, and only allowing one run as he improves to 2-0 on the season. One of the few offensive highlights for the A's came in the 6th, when Victor Sanchez collected his first hit as an A, driving in Aaron Miller on a single. The A's continue their road swing tomorrow, as they head to Brewster for a 5 o'clock first pitch. Audio coverage begins on chathamas.com at 5:40 with the A's Extra Pregame Show.
