Bobby Malek To Join Coaching Staff

Bobby Malek To Join Coaching Staff John Schiffner announced today that former Chatham and Michigan State outfielder Bobby Malek will be joining the Chatham A's coaching staff by early next week. Malek played for Chatham during his sophomore season in 2001. With the A's, Malek hit .263 in 152 at-bats with a homer and 18 RBIs. Malek and company comprised the last Chatham team to win the East Division or make the CCBL Championship Series.

Selected by the New York Mets in the fourth round of the 2002 draft, the Canton, MI native spent parts of six seasons with the Mets organization. He made it all the way to Triple-A for 18 games in 2006, but was eventually released in April, 2007. He continued his career in independent ball, joinging the Bridgeport Bluefish and was the MVP of the Atlantic League All-Star Game in 2007. He returned to affiliated ball in 2008, playing 28 games with the Dodgers' Double-A affiliate in Jacksonville before being released May 22.
