Following a win over the second-place Harwich Mariners, the Chatham Anglers (10-9-2) travel to Red Wilson Field today to take on the division-leading Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (12-6-4).

Chatham snapped its two-game losing streak with a 9-6 victory over Harwich at Veterans Field on Saturday. Two big innings — a five-run fourth inning and a three-run seventh inning — were the difference for the Anglers. Michael Busch (North Carolina) and Greg Jones (UNC Wilmington) each had two hits while Blake Sabol (Southern California) drove in three runs.

Sabol said that pre-game batting practice Saturday was very structured and situation-specific which was helpful.

“We're just trying to make it a more focused round of BP like trying to not just swing mindlessly, but try and swing with a purpose,” Sabol said.

In the fourth inning, Jones slid into home plate and beat the tag from Logan Driscoll (George Mason) to score Chatham’s sixth run. However, the rising sophomore came up holding his wrist. Jones was replaced by Branden Fryman (Samford) to start the next inning.

Since being activated on July 3, Busch has been on a tear. He is hitting .400 to start the season with a homer, four runs scored and three RBIs.

The Red Sox are 7-1-2 over their last ten games. Their only loss was a 5-2 defeat to Chatham on June 29. The Anglers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth with home runs from Tristin English (Georgia Tech) and Drew Mendoza (Florida State). After that, they continued to tack on runs and slowly put Y-D away.

In Chatham’s only other trip to Red Wilson Field this summer on June 13, Y-D and the Anglers tied at one. Jones delivered the only Chatham run of the game on a solo-shot over the right-field wall.

Saturday, Y-D had to comeback from six runs down against the cellar-dwelling Brewster Whitecaps at Stony Brook Field. After scoring two runs in both the fourth and fifth, an Andrew Daschbach (Stanford) single in the seventh tied the game at six. The Red Sox ended up scoring a go-ahead run in the ninth inning, but immediately afterwards, the umpires called the game due to darkness. Because the full inning was not completed, the run was disallowed the game ended in a 6-6 tie.

During the Red Sox’s current ten-game stretch, the team is hitting .305 with 58 RBIs. Leading the offense during this run is Reese Albert (Florida State) —who is hitting .483 in 29 at-bats — and Noah Campbell (South Carolina) — who is hitting .433 in 30 at-bats.

One thing that A’s manager Tom Holliday wants to see improvement in is bunting. He said that he feels a lot of the team does not know how to bunt.

“We just gonna have to teach them,” Holliday said. “Maybe that's one thing we’ll be able to teach them that they didn't learn at their schools. If we took a if we took a course in bunting, we would flunk it. We would not pass the course.”
