Game 15 Preview: Chatham vs. Yarmouth-Dennis

The Chatham Anglers host the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in a Eastern Division battle Friday at Veterans Field at 7 p.m.

Yarmouth-Dennis (8-5-2) is coming into the game riding a three-game win streak that has vaulted them to the top of the Eastern Division, while Chatham (6-6-2) is currently on a three-game skid that has moved it down to third place.

During the Anglers’ three-game losing streak, they have fallen to three Western Division opponents — Cotuit, Falmouth and Wareham. The team has scored only six runs during those contests, while giving up 17.

One player who has been playing well despite the team’s overall struggles is Tristin English (Georgia Tech). Over the three games, English has been the main offensive catalyst with two home runs, two doubles, two walks and three RBIs.

"The loss of [Spencer] Torkelson is big, we don't have any one person who can fill his shoes,” English said. “I'm trying my best.”

With his success at the plate, English has jumped to second in the CCBL in batting average, as he now only trails Wareham’s Austin Shenton (Florida International).

The Red Sox lead the league in hits (135), batting average (.280) and on-base percentage (.370). In addition, they have struckout 103 times, 13 less than any other team. On the mound, its pitching staff produces many strikeouts, as they currently lead the league with 144.

The Anglers and Red Sox have faced off once so far, a 1-1 tie in the second game of the season on June 13.

Chatham has struggled in games following off days, going 0-3 while starting off slow. The A’s have scored only one run in the first five innings of the three games ombined.

Holliday said that the team is going through some struggles and that he hopes they can be solved as soon as possible.

“The guys that are more ready to go are going to play, and sooner or later we're going to settle into a lineup," Holliday said.
