After their first scheduled matchup was rained out Saturday, the Chatham Anglers (6-4-2) and Falmouth Commodores (4-8) will face off for the first time on Tuesday at Veterans Field.

Chatham has played only two full games in the past five days despite having five games scheduled. In addition to Saturday’s cancellation, the A’s have had two games cut short due to fog. Thursday’s contest against Hyannis ended in a 3-3 tie after five innings and Sunday’s second game against Cotuit was called after less than two innings.

For the first time all season, the Anglers will play without Spencer Torkelson (Arizona State). Torkelson — along with southpaw Cody Bradford (Baylor) — left on Monday to go play for Team USA. The rising sophomore is tied for the league’s lead in home runs (5) and RBIs (14), and is the standalone leader in on-base percentage (.520) and slugging percentage (.917).

In addition, Torkelson was named a CCBL Player of the Week by the league.

“After watching him hit another one tonight, that guy is going to play in the big leagues,” Anglers manager Tom Holliday said after Sunday’s game. “That’s going to be a special guy. Not just a big leaguer, he’s going to be a special big leaguer.”

Tuesday’s game could mark the first appearances in a Chatham uniform for Nick Kahle (Washington) and Rankin Woley (Auburn), who were both activated over the last two days. In the spring, Kahle helped lead the Huskies to their first ever College World Series appearance, while Woley was one of the best hitters in junior college after posting a .460 batting average,  11 homers and 93 RBIs at Chattahoochee Valley in Alabama.

Falmouth won both games of its doubleheader Sunday against the Brewster Whitecaps, snapping a six-game losing streak for the Commodores. Steven Williams (Auburn) led Falmouth with four hits and three runs scored over the two games.

The Commodores have really struggled at the dish, and  are last in the league in batting average (.212), on-base percentage (.303) and slugging percentage (.269). Falmouth has scored two runs or less five times this season.

The A’s have not played their best baseball in games following off days. A week ago, they lost 6-3 to Wareham and fell to Cotuit, 6-1. The team has failed to score in the first five innings of both of these contests, which is the only time this season that has happened.

“We are better when we play everyday,” Holliday said.
