Game 6 & 7 Preview: Chatham at Bourne

Game 6 & 7 Preview: Chatham at Bourne

For the first time during the 2018 campaign, the Chatham Anglers (2-2-1) will play a doubleheader Sunday as they face off with the Bourne Braves (2-2) at Doran Park. Gametime for the first contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Chatham is coming off of its biggest victory of the season, where it scored 10 runs on 10 hits against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks at Veterans Field. Blake Sabol (Southern California) led the way with three hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning.

The Anglers offensive performance Saturday was much different than its output Friday. Against Brewster, Chatham only scored one run and accumulated 17 strikeouts at the dish.

“That’s the beautiful thing about the Cape is that you get to play everyday,” Sabol said after Saturday's victory. “We weren't even thinking about last night. It was a new day.”

Each of today’s games will be seven innings. Jack Conlon (San Jacinto) will be the starter for game one against the Braves. Conlon has made one appearance so far as the first pitcher out of the bullpen during the Opening Day game against the Wareham Gatemen. In his role as the “second starter” for that game, he pitched two innings and gave up two runs on two hits and a walk.

On the hill for game two will be Alek Manoah (West Virginia). Manoah started the Opening Day game against the Gatemen. The rising junior threw four innings where struck out three batters but did allow three runners to score — albeit all of them were unearned.

Despite their .500 record, the Braves have been one of the best hitting teams on the Cape. Behind strong starts from Spencer Brickhouse (East Carolina), Tyler Fitzgerald (Louisville) and Oscar Serratos (Georgia Tech), the team leads the league in hitting at .299 and is first in OPS with .827.

One thing the Braves have not done at the plate is draw walks. They have only nine walks through four games, compared to 28 through five for Chatham.
