Take Five with Nick Patten

Chatham, Mass. — Today, we’re taking five minutes in conversation with first baseman Nick Patten. Patten is a rising junior at the University of Delaware, and has been a key starter for the Anglers this season. Over 29 starts, he has notched 17 RBIs — including three home runs — on 27 hits, and currently has a .245 batting average.

When did you start playing baseball'

Patten: I started playing when I was about three or four years old, somewhere in there — just tee ball, backyard tee ball at the local YMCA.

You just finished your sophomore year at Delaware. How did you decide to go there — did you think about other schools'

Patten: Yeah, I had a quite a few. I just liked Delaware — it was the best fit. I just walked on campus and I thought it was the best fit.

So far, what do you think the biggest difference has been between Cape League and college baseball'

Patten: Probably just the overall pitching. You see good pitching in college, but the bullpens here and even the starting pitching — everybody’s very good.

What’s your favorite major league team and player'

Patten: The Pirates for sure, just being from Pittsburgh. My favorite major league player is Kris Bryant — I like him a lot.

Do you have a regular walkout song at school'

Patten: Yeah — Kick It In The Sticks by Brantley Gilbert.

What’s your favorite game day breakfast'

Patten: Usually on game days at Delaware, me and a couple of my buddies go to Waffle House.

The Anglers take on the Cotuit Kettleers at Lowell Park, Cotuit tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.  — listen here: http://bit.ly/ChathamBroadcasts
