Anglers face Cotuit Kettleers in makeup contest tonight

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (11-13) face the Cotuit Kettleers (14-9-1) for the second time this season in a makeup contest at Lowell Park, Cotuit tonight. Chatham previously bested the team 8-4 at Veterans Field June 19.

Last night, a five-run eighth inning rally lifted the Anglers above the Wareham Gatemen (10-13-1). Designated hitter Shea Langeliers (Baylor) knocked in his fifth home run of the season, and shortstop Antonio Ralat (Alabama — Birmingham) drove in two on a single to secure the victory for Chatham.

“I was just trying to keep the rally going, trying to put the ball in play,” Ralat said. “Every night you come here, you’re facing good pitching, so it’s a matter of timing.”

Ralat put the Anglers on the board in the fifth, driving first baseman Nick Patten (Delaware) home on a single to tie the game.

Chatham relief pitcher Rodney Hutchison Jr. (North Carolina) froze the Gatemen with one strikeout over 3.1 scoreless innings.

“Rodney just came in and slammed the door shut,” said manager John Schiffner. “3.1 innings for the save  — for the win, he got the win — that was outstanding.”

Right-handed pitcher Jacob Stevens (Boston College) will take the mound for Chatham tonight. Stevens took the team’s 7-2 loss to the Harwich Mariners (7-16-1) July 3, allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts over 4.2 innings work.

Cotuit enters tonight’s contest on a seven-game unbeaten streak. Last night, darkness halted the team at a 9-9 tie with Hyannis (9-13-2) after nine innings. The Kettleers posted six consecutive victories in the past ten days, most recently besting Harwich 4-2 Sunday.

The Anglers return to Veterans Field to host the Brewster Whitecaps (12-11-1) Wednesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. The Anglers Extra Pregame Show begins at 4:40 p.m. — listen here: http://bit.ly/ChathamBroadcasts
