Chatham, Mass. — The Chatham Anglers (10-11) square off with the Cotuit Kettleers (5-16) tonight at 7 p.m. at Veterans Field in a rematch of last Wednesday’s game at Lowell Park. In that contest the Anglers lost in an 8-2 trouncing at the hand of the last place Kettleers and are looking for redemption tonight to follow up their win over Orleans on Monday.

Hot Hitters

In Chatham’s past two wins, Stuart Fairchild has been one of the main catalysts for the Angler offense. In Monday’s 6-3 victory over the Firebirds, Fairchild went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in another.

Against Harwich two games earlier, Fairchild legged out a triple in the third inning before coming around to score Chatham’s opening run. The Wake Forest Demon Deacon also plated the winning run with a one out single in the seventh.   

In the past week, Fairchild leads the Anglers with his seven hits and .389 batting average. On the season, the outfielder leads all Chatham hitters with nine runs scored as well as six hit-by-pitches – four of which have come in Fairchild’s past six games.

Jason Delay of Vanderbilt has spearheaded the Kettleers during their recent surge, as Cotuit has won three of their last five games after starting the season 2-12. In his past three games for Cotuit, Delay has scored three runs on five hits – including a home run – compiling a .357 batting average.

Throwing Heat

Andrew Karp (0-0) makes his second start for the Anglers this summer as he takes the ball tonight against the Kettleers. Last Tuesday, Karp tossed four shutout innings, striking out five and allowing one hit.

While starting pitching has been a volatile position for Chatham, Karp brings stability with his ability to get players out on few pitches. Last time out – against the Wareham Gatemen – Karp threw 50 pitches to the 13 batters he faced, totaling an average of 3.85 pitches per hitter.

Cotuit will send Justin Hooper (0-1) to the mound tonight as the UCLA freshman makes his second start in the CCBL. Appearing as a reliever for two outings earlier this season, Hooper has crafted a 3.85 ERA, striking out seven in nine and a-third innings pitched. Hooper has also walked six of the 40 batters he’s faced this season.
