Notebook: Game 15 @ Hyannis

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers go for their third consecutive win today as they face off with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (5-9) at McKeon Park. Chatham (8-6) enters the contest on a tear, winning four of its last five games. Hyannis faltered in the early part of June, starting the season off by losing its first seven games. Since that point, however, the Harbor Hawks have rattled off five wins in the past six games and are streaking as they enter Sunday night.

At the Plate: In last night’s victory over the Brewster Whitecaps, Jake Palomaki was the only Angler to record multiple hits as the Boston College product singled in the first and blasted a home run over the fence in left field in the eighth.

The infielder has been playing all across the diamond with Chatham, digging in at both second and third base in his ten games in the CCBL. Palomaki has recorded a hit in seven of his nine starts for Chatham, and has reached base in all of them. His seven walks are second on the team, trailing leader D.J Artis by three.

Palomaki is also tied for the team lead in batting average with .344. His Boston College teammate, Donovan Casey, also sits atop the Anglers average chart at .344.

Jordan Rodgers, a junior out of the University of Tennessee, has headed the Hyannis offense, compiling a .316 average in ten games played. Save for Friday’s game against Cotuit, Rodgers has yet to be kept off of the base paths in the month of June.

In last night’s 5-4 loss to the Wareham Gatemen, Rodgers tripled for the second time this season.

On the Mound: Another new Angler will make their debut today as Kale Breaux takes the ball in his first start of the season for Chatham. The Mississippi State southpaw made one start for the Bulldogs this season, but did feature in 15 games as a reliever.

As a junior, Breaux went 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA, striking out 19.

Getting his first start in the Cape League, John Gavin will take the ball for the Harbor Hawks.

A junior at Cal State Fullerton, Gavin has made three relief appearances on the summer, falling to 0-1 after getting the loss against Bourne back on June 12. In that game, Gavin conceded the game winning single in extra innings after Hyannis rallied to tie the game at four in the ninth.

The rest of the summer has been equally unkind to Gavin as the left-hander has two runs apiece in each of his two other appearances. Gavin currently sports a 11.25 ERA.

Down the Road: The Anglers enjoy an off day tomorrow before returning to Veterans Field  to face the Warhead Gatemen on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Chatham then travels to Lowell Park the following day to finish the month of June off with a game against the Cotuit Kettleers.
