Eight Anglers reach College World Series

Chatham, Mass. — Eight past and present Anglers have made it to Omaha, Nebraska as they represent three of the eight schools in the College World Series. The battle will begin Saturday June 18th as the remaining programs look to punch their ticket to the CWS Finals for a chance to compete for the National Championship.

Bracket One

No. 19 Oklahoma State: Garrett Williams, Jr. LHP/OF (2015, 2014)

            Game 1 vs. UC Santa Barbara: June 18, 2 p.m. (ESPN 2)

Notes: After appearing in both games in the Regionals for the Cowboys, Williams faced one batter in the Super Regionals, walking South Carolina’s DC Arendas on four pitches.

Bracket Two

No. 4 Florida: Mike Rivera, So. C (2016), Jeremy Vasquez, Jr. 1B (2016)

            Game 1 vs. No. 17 Coastal Carolina: June 19, 8 p.m. (ESPN 2)

Notes: Rivera went 1-for-11 against rival Florida State in the Super Regionals, and reached base a second time with a walk. Jeremy Vasquez went hitless in his one start against the Seminoles. He appeared as a pinch hitter in the Gators’ Game 2 win, earning a walk.

No. 6 Texas Tech: Orlando Garcia, So. SS (2016), Tanner Gardner, So. OF (2016), Erikson Lanning, Fr. LHP (2016), Ty Damron, Jr. LHP (2015), Corey Raley, Sr. INF/OF (2015 temp.)

            Game 1 vs. No. 15 TCU: June 19, 3 p.m. (ESPN U) 

Notes: Tanner Gardner exploded for seven hits in 15 at-bats for the Red Raiders in the Super Regionals, scoring twice. His future Chatham teammate, Orlando Garcia crossed the plate three times in Texas Tech’s series victory over East Carolina. Corey Raley went 2-for-14 with two runs scored over the three game span. While Ty Damron failed to make an appearance in the series, Erikson Lanning turned in one of his best starts of the year in Game 3. The lefty went seven innings strong, striking out six while not allowing a run. Lanning earned the win to send his team to Omaha.
