Prior to heading into a best-of-three playoff series with the Orleans Firebirds, the Chatham Anglers recognized six players in the 2015 edition of the annual team awards. Here are the recipients of this year’s honors, as well as descriptions of the awards and the individuals for whom they are named.  

The Willard Nichols Most Outstanding Player Award 

“The Willard Nicholas Most Outstanding Player Award is named for a person who selflessly volunteered hours of his time to help maintain this wonderful franchise when it needed it the most. To many of us Willard Nicholas was known as Nick the Barber, and it is fitting to name this award for this most outstanding individual.”

2015 recipient: Brandon Miller (Millersville)

Season stats: 4-0, 1.50 ERA, 27 strikeouts, one base on balls

The Ed Baird Outstanding Pitching Award

“The Ed Baird Most Outstanding Pitcher Award is named for our own Ed Baird, currently the Chatham Athletic Association treasurer. He is a Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Famer and the holder of several league and Chatham pitching records.”

2015 recipients: Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest), Zac Gallen (North Carolina)

Dunshee season stats: 3-2, 2.16 ERA, 27 strikeouts, eight bases on balls

Gallen season stats: 2-2, 3.21 ERA, 34 strikeouts, nine bases on balls

The Ed Lyons Coaches Award

“The Ed Lyons Coaches Awards are given annually to the player or players who have gone above and beyond the expectations of the coaching staff; they are “grinders” who have led by example and hard work. These are the type of players that Ed made a career out of coaching. Ed was the former coach of the A’s and was inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame in its first class.”

2015 recipients: Aaron Barnett (Pepperdine), Nick Sciortino (Boston College)

Barnett season stats: eight caught stealings, 170 putouts, 20 assists, 10-game hit streak 

Sciortino season stats: 17 caught stealings (league leader), 164 putouts, 30 assists, .990 fielding percentage

The Zane Carlson Relief Pitcher of the Year

“The Zane Carlson Relief Pitcher of the Year is named for the Cape Cod League Hall of Famer and former Chatham A who holds the career record for saves in the Cape Cod Baseball League.”

2015 recipient: Aaron McGarity (Virginia Tech) 

Season stats: 0-0, 1.38 ERA, eight saves, nine strikeouts, zero walks
