Chatham starts last week of play before All Star Game at Cotuit

After enjoying an off day Monday, the Chatham Anglers (18-15) are ready to resume play against the Cotuit Kettleers (13-20) at Lowell Park 5 p.m. tonight. The interdivision contest opens the last week of play for Anglers before Saturday’s Cape Cod Baseball League All Star Game at Wareham 5 p.m. Saturday. This year’s Chatham team sports four CCBL All Stars—one starting pitcher, two relief pitchers, and one position player.

“It wasn’t hard [for the four Chatham All Stars to get votes,]” said Manager John Schiffner. “They all had really good statistics.”

Chatham’s All-Star starting pitcher, Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest), is 3-2 with a 2.73 ERA in five starts. He has logged 26.1 innings and recorded a strikeout to walk tally of 20:5. Dunshee has thrownfirst-pitch strikes to 73% of the batters he has faced strikes in any count 71% of the time.

A pair of dominant Angler relievers—Brandon Miller (Millersville) and Aaron McGarity (Virginia Tech)—join Dunshee on the East Division’s pitching staff. Miller has put his ironically-named school on the map this summer to the tune of a 3-0 record and 1.83 ERA. He has not allowed a run—earned or otherwise—since July 3 and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 22:1.

McGarity has displayed similar dominance in late-inning situations to that of Miller in the mid-innings. The right-handed Hokie leads the Anglers with 6 saves, and his 1.80 ERA compliments a WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) of 0.60.

On the offensive side of the ball the Anglers boast an All-Star outfielder—Aaron Knapp (California). Knapp’s eight game hit streak is the longest belonging to a Chatham player this year, and his five stolen bases likewise leads the team.

These four Chatham All Stars will try to help the Anglers win tonight in Cotuit. The likely starting pitcher the Anglers will call on is Zac Gallen (North Carolina). Gallen has a 1-1 record with a 2.36 ERA through his first four starts on the summer. Cotuit has yet to announce a probable pitcher.

Dominic Cotroneo and Jonny Wincott will have the call live, starting with the Anglers Extra Pregame Show at 5:40 p.m. on TRZ Teamline and at 1-800-846-4700, code 3841.
