BREWSTER Mass., — It’s hard to believe, but the Chatham Anglers (16-13) and Brewster Whitecaps (15-14) have already exhausted all of their 2015 head-to-head regular-season contests. The East Division foes played their final scheduled showdown at Stony Brook Field in Brewster Tuesday, and the Whitecaps emerged from the final clash with a 6-0 victory.

“We were a little flat and their pitchers threw really, really well,” said Manager John Schiffner. “Give credit where credit is due. It happens.”

Aaron Barnett (Pepperdine) extended his hit streak to three consecutive games Tuesday. 

Despite the net offensive production not equaling the impressive output Chatham had been averaging over the last week, a couple of Anglers extended personal streaks in the loss.

The longer belongs to Aaron Knapp (California), who extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games. The left-handed batter has gone 9-27 (.333) with five walks and two RBIs over his run.

“I’m trying to count my hard-hit balls more than I count my hits,” said Knapp, who was unaware of his personal streak. “If you hit the ball hard good things will happen, and right now they’re falling for me.”

The similarly-named Chatham catcher, Aaron Barnett (Pepperdine), extended his own hit streak to three in a row. Though his hit run is not yet mind-numbingly long, the California native has an impressive six hits and four RBIs over the last three games.

“They’ve both been taking good swings up there,” said Schiffner. “They’ve put together some nice at-bats.”

Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest) made his fifth start of the summer for the Anglers. The right-hander tossed four innings of one-run ball. Brewster was able to mount some early offensive pressure, but the crafty Dunshee worked out of trouble with minimal damage each time.

The defining inning of Dunshee’s outing was his final frame. With runners on first and second with nobody out, the tough Demon Deacon dug in and escaped unscathed with a strikeout and a 4-6-3 double play.

Following Dunshee, the Anglers turned to Zack Burdi for the first time this summer. The rocket-throwing righty made 12 appearances for Chatham last summer, but competition with Team USA delayed his arrival this year. He struck out three and allowed two in as many innings out of the pen.

“He’s got great stuff,” said Schiffner. “When he’s in the zone, he dominates hitters.”

CJ Burdick (San Diego) followed with a scoreless seventh inning, and Jonathan Teaney (San Diego) and James Mulry (Northeastern) combined for the eighth.

Schiffner: “We’ve won six out of nine. That’s not a bad run; I’m pleased with that.”

The Anglers next host the Wareham Gatemen (12-15) 7 p.m. Wednesday. Jake Godfrey (Louisiana State) is expected to make his fourth appearance and second start of the summer for the Anglers. The right-hander brings an ERA of 3.17 and an unmoved record of 0-0 into play. He will likely duel against Wareham’s Daulton Jefferies (California), who is 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA.
