Versatility expected to show on the mound against Y-D

On Thursday night Chatham fans witnessed a rare sight at Eldredge Park—a pitcher scoring the game’s winning run as a pinch runner in the top of the tenth. The game was the first edition of the Chatham vs. Orleans rivalry in 2015.

“It’s a great luxury to have a kid who can run the bases like that,” said Manager John Schiffner. “You can tell he’s a good athlete and remembers how to run the bases, and he did a tremendous job right there. He won the game for us.”

Tonight, the Chatham Anglers (9-7) are slated for a 5 p.m. road contest against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (7-9), and the pitcher who scored Thursday’s winning run is Chatham's probable starter.

Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest) has a 1-0 record on the base paths and a 2-0 record on the hill entering Sunday’s contest. He has baffled opponents over his first 11 innings, maintaining a 1.63 ERA and a strikeout to walk total of 6-0. He has thrown 90 strikes in 120 pitches to get through those 11 innings.

“I’ve just been coming out attacking batters with what I’ve got and not falling behind,” said Dunshee. “I’m just trusting my stuff. If they hit it, they hit it, but I’m going to bring my pitch in my count and throw my best stuff.”

Yarmouth-Dennis is scheduled to throw the left-handed Ricky Thomas (Fresno State). Thomas has matched Dunshee’s 2-0 record this summer, though with a slightly contrasting style. He will be around the plate but has a marginally higher propensity to throw off the zone. He has recorded 13 strikeouts to 3 walks for the Red Sox.

First pitch is 5 p.m. from Red Wilson Field. Dominic Cotroneo and Jonny Wincott have call live, starting with the Anglers Extra Pregame Show at 4:40 p.m. It can be viewed/heard on TRZ Teamline or heard toll-free at 1-800-846-4700, code 3841.
