Thoms Returning as General Manager

by Anglers Media Team, 07-10-2010

Thoms Returning as General Manager After a two year hiatus, Charlie Thoms is returning as General Manager of the Chatham Anglers. Thoms replaces interim GM Doug Grattan effective immediately. Thoms previously served as Chatham's GM from the middle of the 1997 season through the 2008 campaign. During his tenure, Chatham won three regular season division championships and reached the league finals three times, winning the championship in 1998. Over twenty-five players who played for Chatham during that time have reached the major leagues, including Jason Bay and Evan Longoria.

Thoms stated he initially stepped down from his position after the 2008 season because he wasn't sure if he would still be living in the area. Two years later, Thoms is still living in Chatham and is happy to rejoin the organization. "The opportunity was there and I've always had a great relationship with the team," said Thoms.

Chatham Assistant General Manager Bob Sherman, who previously served as an assistant to Thoms, is excited to have him back. "He's a top-notch guy. He's just terrific with the players and the coaches," said Sherman, noting that Thoms has also hosted players in the past. "He's a real good leader and gets everyone's respect. He's well-respected around the league."
