Game 4 Preview: Chatham at Falmouth

Chatham (1-1-1) hits the road for the first time this season as it travels to take on Falmouth (0-3-0). Both teams are in search of offensive rhythm; the Commodores have scored a league-worst three runs, while Chatham has scored six.

Probable Pitchers

Hayden Durke will make his Anglers debut. The right-handed pitcher appeared in 10 games — starting one — with Louisiana-Lafayette. He walked 13 batters in 12.1 innings and logged a 6.57 ERA.

”I think he’s got a great arm,” Chatham manager Tom Holliday said before the Anglers’ season. “Wow, I was really impressed with his arm.”

Grayson Hitt is expected to start for Falmouth. The southpaw allowed 66 hits and pitched to a 5.34 ERA over 60.2 innings with Alabama. He walked 30 batters and struck out 68.

Chatham Players to Watch

Marcus Brown has been one of the Anglers’ most exciting bats through the first three games of the season. The shortstop from Oklahoma State has accounted for three of Chatham’s five RBIs and has recorded a hit in both his starts.

Dominic Tamez is 2 for 7 on the season with a double and a walk. Tamez struggled at the plate with the Anglers in 2021 but hit .289 in 55 games with Alabama in the spring.

Falmouth Players to Watch

Maui Ahuna anchors the middle of Falmouth’s lineup after putting together a .396/.479/.634 slash line in 53 games with Kansas. The left-handed-hitting infielder stole 13 bases with the Jayhawks.

Alex Mooney has started at shortstop in all three of the Commodores’ games and leads the team with four hits. Mooney posted a .393 on-base percentage over 54 games during his freshman year with Duke.

Stat to Know — 0

Chatham is one of four teams in the league without a home run. The Anglers have the ability; Noah Ledford blasted 17 home runs with Georgia Southern in the spring, Chuck Ingram logged 14 with Wichita State and Caden Grice has hit 27 over two seasons with Clemson.

Last Time They Played

Chatham topped Falmouth 3-1 behind Victor Mederos’ efficient start on July 26, 2021. Mederos tossed six scoreless innings, allowing four hits while walking one and striking out seven. Cy Nielson surrendered one run — unearned — over the final three innings. Nielson punched out seven batters, matching Mederos’ total in half as many innings.

Lyle Miller-Green’s two-RBI single in the first inning supported Mederos and Nielson’s performances on the mound.
