CCBL announces new start date, vaccine requirement ahead of 2021 season

Chatham will open its 2021 Cape Cod Baseball League season on June 20 after the league announced it pushed the start date back one week. Initially, the Anglers were supposed to begin on June 12 against Falmouth before returning to Veterans Field the next day and hosting Orleans.

Chatham’s schedule is expected to remain at 40 games, and the original end date of August 11 remains unchanged. But due to the new start date, the league’s playoff format has been restructured, with the top two teams from each division earning postseason spots. A three-game series within each division decides which two teams play in the championship. In 2019, four teams qualified from each division — with Chatham winning 24 games and the East Division regular season title.

The executive board made a separate ruling Wednesday night that requires all participants in the 2021 CCBL — including players, coaches, medical staff, interns, and volunteers — to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, unless proper medical and religious exemptions are made.

The updated schedule will be posted to the Chatham website and social media outlets when it’s released publicly.
