Game 20 Preview: Chatham at Orleans

On Saturday, Chatham (4-12-3) broke a string of four consecutive losses, tying Harwich 1-1. Still, the Anglers have not won in eight days. Sunday brings a new opportunity though, as Chatham takes on Orleans (8-8-2) at 6:30 p.m. at Eldredge Park.

Probable Pitchers

Carson Whisenhunt (East Carolina) will start for Chatham. Whisenhunt, who is expected to leave for the MLB Draft soon, has started three games for the Anglers. The left-hander has a 4.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio but has struggled to prevent runs, logging a 10.63 ERA through 11 innings.

Donye Evans is expected to start for Orleans. Through seven innings, the 6-foot-6 right-hander has allowed one run on four hits. In his most recent outing, Evans held Cotuit ' which leads the league in runs ' scoreless over four innings.

Chatham Players to Watch

Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) has driven in all three of Chatham's runs over its past two games. On Friday, DeLeo sent a two-run homer off the scoreboard at Veterans Field. A day later, DeLeo's solo shot was the Anglers' only run in their tie with Harwich.

Caden Grice (Clemson) is tied with DeLeo for the team-lead in hits with 13. Over his past three games, Grice is 3 for 8 with three walks, raising his average to .224. Trailing only DeLeo, Grice has the Anglers' second-highest slugging percentage.

Orleans Players to Watch

Kevin Sim was spectacular in the Firebirds' 4-0 win over Chatham earlier this season, sending a two-run homer to left field in the first inning and reaching base again after being hit by a pitch later in the game. Sim has four home runs and a .352 on-base percentage this season.

Travis Honeyman leads the Cape League in batting average, just as he did when the Anglers and Firebirds last met. Honeyman went 1 for 4 against Chatham on Wednesday, striking a single to right field in his last at-bat.

Stat to Know ' 4

Chatham and Orleans are in the midst of a 10-day span in which they play each other four times. Orleans beat Chatham this past Wednesday in the teams' first matchup of the season, and after Sunday's contest in Orleans, Chatham hosts the Firebirds on Monday. The two teams match up again that Saturday.

Last Time They Played

On Wednesday, three Orleans pitchers combined to no-hit the Anglers at Eldredge Park, helping the Firebirds to a 4-0 win. Bryce Warrecker threw six perfect innings before handing the ball off to Josh Allen. Allen hit Marcus Brown with a pitch in the seventh inning to give Chatham its first base runner, but he kept the Anglers hitless for two innings. Chris Clark pitched the ninth inning and struck out Tommy Caufield to finish the no-hitter.
