Notebook: Game 9 @ Yarmouth-Dennis

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers improved to 4-4 on the season after defeating Falmouth in last night’s 5-2 victory. Today, they’ll look to win consecutive games for the second time this season, squaring off with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox at Veterans Field.

At the Plate: Chatham’s Chase Pinder turned in a three-hit performance yesterday, driving in the tying run in the fourth inning. The Clemson Tiger is hitting for an impressive .364 average in his first four games as an Angler, driving in three runs. Against Bourne on Thursday, Pinder stroked a two-run triple to left-center to start the game.

For the Tigers, the outfielder scored a team-high 67 runs this season and was third on the playoff squad in home runs with 11.

Sean Bouchard of UCLA also had a multi-hit game last night, going 2-for-5 with a run scored. The Bruin has recorded a hit in three of his four games with the Anglers since joining the team on Wednesday against Bourne.

Maryland’s Kevin Smith has appeared in all eight of YD’s games this season, crafting a .387 average on 12 hits. In yesterday’s win over Wareham, the middle infielder went 2-for-5 with a double and scored the winning run.

On the Mound: The Anglers will trot out Trevor Gay to start tonight, as the righty looks to get his first win on the season for Chatham. Last time out, the North Carolina hurler gave up four runs across three innings against the Brewster Whitecaps.

Though he ran into trouble in the third, Gay managed to strike out four batters while walking none.

Opposing Gay will be Mitch Hart of the University of Southern California. The sophomore right-hander is 0-1 on the season after being touched for seven earned runs in five innings of work against the Harwich Mariners.

With the Trojans, Hart went 7-3 with a 4.07 ERA. His two complete games were the most for USC this season.

Down the Road: The Anglers travel to Wareham tomorrow for a 6:30 contest with the Gatemen. Chatham will then have their first off day of the season before they again square off with the Red Sox at YD’s Red Wilson Field.
