Anglers in 2016 NCAA tournament
Chatham, Mass. — Friday marks the beginning of regional play for the 2016 NCAA Men’s Division I Baseball Championship. Thirty-five past and present Anglers will take the field this weekend, the highest number to do so since thirty-eight members of Chatham’s squad did in 2012. Nineteen of the thirty-five play on one of the NCAA’s Top 25 teams. Out of the sixty-four schools earning a spot in the prelude to the College World Series, fifteen will feature a current or former member of the Anglers.
Twenty-two of the Anglers in this year’s tournament are slated to call Veterans Field home this summer while twelve played for Chatham in 2015 as did five in 2014. Louisville’s Kyle Funkhouser is the only member of Chatham’s 2013 squad to suit up this postseason. Five players spent multiple summers with the Anglers.
Wake Forest boasts the most Anglers on its roster this season with seven, including Louisville Slugger First-Team All-American and Golden Spikes Award semi-finalist Will Craig (2015). Boston College has the second-most with six.
