Anglers Face Elimination in Game Two
On Friday night, the Chatham Anglers return to Veterans Field for Game Two of a three-game playoff series against the Y-D Red Sox. The Red Sox took Game One on Thursday at Red Wilson Field, besting the Anglers 7-4. UC Irvine's Andrew Thurman (1-0, 7.20 ERA) earned the win for Y-D (5IP, 5H, 4ER, 3BB, 4K) and San Diego's Michael Wagner suffered the loss for Chatham (5.2IP, 5H, 5ER, 2BB, 6K).

A slugfest early on, nine of the game's eleven runs were scored in the first four innings of play. With one out in the second inning, Boston College's John Hennessy put the Anglers up 3-0 with a three-run home run. Added as the the team's final roster move on August 5, Hennessy has recorded an RBI in three of his four games with Chatham.

"I'm basically just trying to keep everything simple and situational hit," he said. "I'm not trying to do too much with everything and just stay up the middle."

While the Anglers appeared to have control of the game, Y-D answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Florida's Justin Shafer struck first, connecting for a solo home run to begin the frame. Despite two quick outs, the Red Sox were able to tack on three more runs after Indiana's Sam Travis hit an RBI double and Washington's Robert Pehl knocked a two-run home run, giving Y-D a 4-3 lead.

The Anglers' final run of the day came in the fourth when San Diego's Louie Lechich hit a solo home to right field to tie the game at four. Y-D responded with three unanswered runs when Stanford's Alex Blandino scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth, Travis hit an RBI groundout in the seventh and Mercyhurst's Zak Blair ripped an RBI single.

For Game Two, Maine's Tommy Lawrence (2-1, 3.55 ERA) will start for Chatham. In his last start against Harwich on August 3, Lawrence got a no-decision (6IP, 6H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 5K).

Y-D will counter with Marshall's Aaron Blair (6-0, 1.17 ERA). Blair earned a save against Bourne in last last appearance on August 3 (2IP, 2H, 0ER, 1BB, 2K). A 2012 Cape League All-Star, Blair has allowed only five earned runs this summer.
