Anglers Get
The matchup between the Chatham Anglers (21-9-1) and the Falmouth Commodores (18-13) was hyped up to be a matchup between two Cape League offensive powers. The crowd at Veterans Field was treated to an offensive show, but it was all Anglers on Saturday Night.

"We made a statement tonight," Manager John Schiffner said. "The past three nights, we have beaten pretty good, playoff-caliber teams. We have showed how good we can be."

The Anglers blew the game open early, plating three runs in the first inning, three more in the second, and two in the third.

Game 32: Chatham 10, Falmouth 4

Dante Flores (Southern California) got the Anglers on the board quickly with a double with one out and came in on a J.D. Davis RBI single. The double was Flores' league leading 12th of the season. Chatham got two more in the frame on a two-run double from Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern).

The offensive outpouring continued in the second and third innings. Chatham scored three unearned runs on three hits in the second inning. They got two more runs on an infield single from Dante Flores that bounced off the glove of Falmouth first baseman Kevin Cron (TCU).

After three innings, the Anglers had totaled eight runs on ten hits, and held a commanding 8-0 lead.

"When we are clicking on all cylinders, this is a pretty tough team to beat," Schiffner said. "It's definitely a fun team to coach, and the fans can appreciate what a good team this is."

Falmouth came into Saturday Nights game with one of the most potent offenses in the league, leading in home runs, team batting average, and runs scored. The first six batters in their lineup had all been selected to the Western Division All-Star team.

Lukas Schiraldi (Texas) shut them down.

"He had a fabulous outing. He has gotten so much better with every start he has had," Schiffner said. "All of his pitches were working tonight, he pounded the strike zone, and you could tell that he had confidence on the mound tonight."

He did not give up a run or a walk in six innings of work on the mound. The righty lowered his ERA on the summer to 1.42.

J.D Davis (Cal State Fullerton) had five of Chatham's 17 hits. He went
5-5 with three RBI in the 10-4 win over Falmouth on Saturday.
"It was all location, I really located well tonight," Schiraldi said. "It makes it really when you have an offense behind you that is giving you all of that run support."

A night after Connor Joe (San Diego) collected five hits against Bourne, J.D. Davis (Cal State Fullerton) led the charge with five hits and two RBI, improving his average to .329 on the season. The middle of the order provided eight hits and six walks on the night

"It is still all about slowing the game down," Davis said. "With the guys in the middle of the order, we know that if one of us is having an off night, the other guys are going to get on base."

Dante Flores was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in as well. Designated hitter Brandon Sedell drove in a season high three runs on the evening.

Brandon Magallones (Northwestern) took the loss for Falmouth. He was chased after just 1.2 innings of work. The All-Star gave up six runs (three earned) on six hits before being removed from the game.

Falmouth got on the board with a two-run home run from catcher Cameron O'Brien (West Virginia) in the seventh inning. It was O'Brien's first long ball of the summer, making him the eighth Commodore to hit a homer in 2013.

Falmouth added a pair in the 8th inning off of Chad Sobotka (South Carolina-Upstate), but could get no closer. Chatham scored two runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 10-4 lead. Kyle Funkhouser (Louisville) closed out the game with two strikeouts in the top of the ninth.

The Anglers have scored at least 10 runs in the past three game, all wins. They are now third in the league in total offense.

"We are just playing with an attitude," Davis said. "It's great. We know, as an offense, that we can get the job done against any pitcher. We are just confident."

The win was Chatham's 22nd of the season. Since the Anglers have a tie, they are now assured of a winning record in 2013. Chatham's last winning season was 2007, when the A's were 25-16-3.

The Anglers travel to Wareham Sunday for a 6 p.m. game at Clem Spillane Field. All-Star Matt Gage (Siena) is slated to start for Chatham.
