Rivalry Renewed: Anglers take on Orleans, Look to End Losing Streak
The Anglers are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, and before their game against Orleans on Sunday night at Veterans Field, the team is looking for answers.

"We have to remember that we were 6-0," Erich Weiss (Texas) said. "We just need to get back to doing what we were doing then."

Chatham suffered back-to-back 1-0 losses on Wednesday and Friday, where the Anglers received great performances from their pitching staff, but the offense was held silent.

Going into Saturday's game at Falmouth, Chatham had not scored a run in 18 innings, and although that streak was snapped after 22 innings on an RBI single from Weiss, the one run was all the Angler offense could muster, and Chatham fell 6-1.

lone run on Saturday.

The Anglers got a solid pitching outing from starter Matt Gage (Siena), who gave up two earned runs in five innings pitched, but the team was plagued by errors with five in the game.

Going into Saturday, Chatham only had six total errors.

"It is hard not the be frustrated, we have lost three in a row and have only scored one run," Weiss said. "We know we are a good team, we just have to pick it up."

Looking to get Chatham back on track will be LHP Andrew Chin (Boston College), who is 2-0 and has not allowed a run in 8.0 innings pitched so far this season. In the midst of this losing streak, the team is hoping that Chin can be a stopper and get them back to winning.

"We sure hope he can be a stopper for us," Coach John Schiffner said. "He is a great pitcher, and we think we will get a quality start from him."

After leading the league in hitting for the first six games of the season, Chatham now sits at fourth in the league with a .244 team batting average.

Chatham will renew their rivalry with the Orleans Firebirds (4-4) in their first matchup of the 2013 season.

Orleans comes into Sundays game 1.5 games back of the Anglers for first place in the Eastern Division. The Firebirds have shown offensive firepower of late, scoring 17 runs on Friday against Y-D, but pitching has plagued them, as they have given up 23 runs in the past four games.

Pitching for Orleans, attempting to give Chatham their fourth loss in a row, will be left-hander Bobby Poyner (Florida). In his first start of the season, Poyner only threw for two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

For Florida in 2013, Poyner had a 3.41 ERA in 14 appearances, holding opposing batters to a .214 batting average in 37 innings pitched.

Orleans outfielder Chris Marconcini (Duke) leads the league in RBI with eight on the season.

Going into their tenth game of the season, there is still no panic during this losing streak.

"We aren't panicking right now," Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern) said. "We are in a rough stretch right now, but we will pick it up."
