Anglers and Mariners: Take Four
On Saturday night, Chatham (15-14) faces off against the Harwich Mariners (19-11) for the fourth time this season. The Anglers are 2-1 this season against Harwich, winning 5-3 on July 6, losing 4-3 on July 7 and emerging victorious 4-2 on July 13.

"Everybody in the East is so close to each other right now," said manager John Schiffner. "Anybody can be beaten right now and there is a huge fight for that fourth playoff spot. That's the great thing about this league."

Chatham fell 2-1 in its last game against the Cotuit Kettleers on Friday night. San Diego's Michael Wagner (2-2, 1.98 ERA) suffered the loss for the Anglers (6IP, 6H, 2ER, 2BB, 5K).

At the plate, Chatham's lone run on the day came from an RBI single by first baseman Alex Calbick (Maine). In his last three games for the Anglers, Calbick has six RBI and has begun to catch fire in his second summer in Chatham.

"This is really great to see," said Schiffner. "Alex has been working really hard lately. Early in the season, he was hitting shots right at people and now they are finally starting to drop. Alex is really starting to come into his own out there. As one of our second year players, he's a leader out there."

Making his third start of the season, Maine's Tommy Lawrence (2-0, 1.80 ERA) is scheduled to get the ball for Chatham. Lawrence earned a win in his last start against Hyannis on July 14 (6.2IP, 3ER, 9H, 6K). In seven appearances, Lawrence has 21 strikeouts and has issued three walks.

Virginia Tech's Eddie Campbell (2-0, 4.29 ERA) will make the start for Harwich. Campbell earned a no-decision in his last start against Y-D on July 14 (2IP, 5ER, 0BB, 1K). On July 7, Campbell earned a victory against Chatham, (6IP, 1ER, 3H,1BB, 8K).

In other news, three Chatham players were selected on Friday for the 2012 All-Star Game. RHP Ryan Thompson (Franklin Pierce), RHP Michael Wagner (San Diego) and catcher Andrew Knapp (California) will represent the Anglers in Harwich on July 28.

"They are three of our best players," said Schiffner. "They deserve the recognition. Wags and Ryan have thrown terrific with sub-two ERAs and Knapp is our guy right now. Wherever Knapp plays, he always makes an impact."

Additionally, Chatham will play a make-up game on Monday, July 23 at 7 p.m. against the Orleans Firebirds at Veterans Field. The game was moved due to a rain-out on Wednesday.
