Chatham Journeys to Falmouth to Kick Off July 4th Weekend
After ending a two-game skid against Bourne on Thursday evening, the Chatham Anglers (7-4) travel to Guv Fuller Field to battle the Falmouth Commodores (7-5). Heading into the busiest weekend of the year on the Cape, manager John Schiffner and his team will make an early departure.

"The road trip stinks because today is the start of the most heavily trafficked weekend on Cape Cod," said Schiffner. "You have to go onto Route 28 unless you have a helicopter that you can take into Falmouth. It's just part of the Cape League lore. You go to Falmouth from the other end of the Cape on a horribly busy day."

Franklin Pierce right-hander Ryan Thompson (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the rubber for the Anglers. The lanky junior was given a no-decision in his last start against Hyannis on June 17, tossing five scoreless innings and fanning five batters. Thompson has yet to allow an earned run this season and will face off against a Commodore lineup batting a collective .273. Through twelve games this season, Falmouth has already scored 70 runs.

The Commodores will be led on the mound by St. John's Sean Hagan (0-0, 31.50 ERA). The six-foot six southpaw will make his first start of the season on Friday. In two relief appearances this season, Hagan has given up seven earned runs on ten hits and has struck out two batters. The junior will take on an Angler lineup hitting .228 as a team and that leads the Cape League in walks with 54.

Offensively, Chatham now has six players batting .250 or better: Maine infielder Mike Fransoso (.250), Louisville infielder Alex Chittenden (.250), Louisville outfielder Adam Engel (.289), Boston College outfielder Tom Bourdon (.294), Pepperdine outfielder Aaron Brown (.296) and Virginia Tech infielder Chad Pinder (.325). Pinder has recorded an RBI in five straight games and is now second in the Cape League with 14.
