Anglers Lose Third Straight Game, Fall to Bourne 2-0
For the third consecutive game the Chatham bats went silent as they fell 2-0 to the Bourne Braves at Doran Park. Over the past three games, all losses, the Anglers have scored just two runs. Bourne starter Will Jolin was the latest pitcher to shut down the Chatham lineup as he struck out nine batters in five innings, picking up his first win of the season.

The Anglers stranded nine runners in the game, missing multiple opportunities to break the game open. Chatham had runners on first and third with one out in the third but could not score as Phil Pohl (Clemson) was thrown out at home trying to score as Beau Amaral (UCLA) stole second. The Anglers had their best chance in the top of the fifth as they had the bases loaded with one out but Jolin was able to get out of the jam with a pop out and a strikeout.

The Braves broke up a scoreless tie against Chatham starter Greg Larson (Florida) in the bottom of the fifth. Parker Brunelle (Florida State) led off with a single before Devon Travis (Florida State) reached on a bunt single. After a sacrifice moved the runners over, Tommy LaStella (Coastal Carolina) lined a single off of Larson's body to score Brunelle. In his first start of the season, Larson was impressive as he went six innings, scattering eight hits and a walk while striking out four. He fell to 0-2 on the season.

Bourne would add another run in the bottom of the eighth off of Garrett Davis (North Carolina). Davis walked the first two batters he faced before an error on shortstop Stephen Perez (Miami) loaded the bases with no outs. Davis got the next batter to ground to Perez but the shortstop's throw home got away, allowing Jason Coats (TCU) to score.

The Anglers had one last chance in the top of the ninth as Peter Verdin (Georgia) led off the inning with an infield single. After a strikeout, Pohl singled, his second hit of the game, to put runners on first and second with one out. Bourne reliever Tony Zych (Louisville) was able to get Amaral to ground in to a double play to end the threat, picking up his fifth save of the season.
