Torero Pair Lead A's Past Cardinals
A night after their San Diego teammate Sammy Solis saw a strong start go to waste due to fog, fellow Toreros Kyle Blair and Victor Sanchez ensured that the A's would stay hot. Blair picked up his first win of the summer, with run support highlighted by two titanic home runs from Victor Sanchez. The 9-4 win, their second straight against the first place Cardinals, pushes the A's closer to the playoffs, as they now sit tied with the Brewster Whitecaps, just two points behind the second place Harwich Mariners.

Kyle Blair threw five solid innings in his second start of the summer, giving up a run on three base hits, while striking out five. He had the benefit of pitching from ahead, as Cory Olson singled on the first pitch of the ballgame, and scored on a Kyle Bellows ground rule double. Chatham added another in the second, as Gabe Cohen doubled in Evan Ocheltree. After singles from Grant Green and Kyle Bellows in the third, Victor Sanchez launched a monster home run to left, putting the A's in front 5-0 with his fifth home run of the season.

Orleans cracked the scoreboard in the fourth, as Shaun Kort led off the inning with a home run. In the Chatham fifth, Victor Sanchez unloaded on another pitch, once again to left field, for his second round tripper of the game. The longball broke a tie between Sanchez and Grant Green for the team lead, as Sanchez drew even in the third with his fifth, before moving into the top spot in the fifth with his sixth.

The two teams capitalized on control issues from their respective pitchers to trade runs in the later innings. Ultimately, the runs would be insignificant, as Carmine Giardina retired pinch hitter Alex Hassan with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to end the game. The three consecutive wins, including two against the first place Cardinals, is the longest such streak of the season. The A's will try to push the number to four tomorrow at Spillane Field against the Wareham Gatemen. First pitch is at 7 with the A's Extra Pregame Show beginning at 6:40
