Game 40 Preview: Falmouth at Chatham

The Anglers rebounded from back-to-back losses with back-to-back wins. The victories were led by offensive onslaughts, starting with 10 runs against Cotuit and six versus Falmouth. Now, Chatham faces the Commodores for the second time in three days, five games away from the end of the regular season,

Probable Pitchers

Caden Grice (Clemson) is expected to start for the Anglers. He's appeared all over the field for Chatham, last starting at first base with several appearances in the outfield as well. Grice posted a stellar five-inning performance in his last game on the mound, striking out six batters while allowing two hits.

Chase Jeter will start for the Commodores. He's recorded a 1.24 ERA so far this summer, appearing in 21.2 innings on the mound. Jeter has only walked four batters, striking out 15. He's in his second season with Falmouth.

Chatham Players to Watch

Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) looks to extend his hitting streak to 13 games on Thursday. In his latest hitting streak, Riggio's been 16-for-47 (.340) at the plate, bringing in 14 runs. He said the biggest thing that's led to his success has been on the 'mental' side, specifically after a slow start to the season.

Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) has notched two hits in back-to-back games for the Anglers, scoring a combined three runs. He's recorded 12 RBIs this season.

Falmouth Players to Watch

Colby Halter leads Falmouth's offense with a .317 batting average and 19 RBIs. He's belted seven home runs this season with 38 total hits. Halter notched 60 hits and 27 RBIs at Florida this spring.

Alex Mooney joined Halter as an All-Star selection from Falmouth with 15 hits, which is tied for third on the team. Mooney's launched four home runs, striking out once in Wednesday's matchup against Chatham.

Stat to Know ' 157

Chatham and Falmouth are tied for second in the CCBL with 157 walks so far this season. The Anglers are led by Cooper Ingle (Clemson), who has walked 25 times (15 more than the next closest player). Halter leads the Commodores with 20 walks.

Last Time They Played

Riggio immediately extended his hitting streak to 12 games, belting the ball over the right field fence in the first inning. Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) touched home plate as well after lacing a single to left field.

Riggio found himself with another RBI opportunity four innings later. With two runners on base, he launched a three-run homer to a similar spot as his previous long bomb.

'Before I went up, (manager Tom Holliday) asked me, 'Do you wanna bunt here'' And I was like, 'Not really.' And he was like, 'Alright, go ahead,'' Riggio said.

Riggio's five RBIs and Guy Garibay Jr.'s (Rice) solo home run were all the Anglers needed due to a near perfect performance at the mound. Owen Stevenson (San Francisco) allowed just three hits in seven innings before Holden Phelps (Missouri) finished the shutout. It was the Anglers first shutout in a nine-inning game this year.
