Game 39 Preview: Chatham at Falmouth

Chatham (12-19-7) will face Falmouth (17-18-3) for the first time in over a month at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Guv Fuller Field.

The Anglers traveled to Guv Fuller Field back on June 16 for their first road game of the season. Now, Chatham is fighting to make the playoffs, sitting one point behind Orleans for fourth in the East Division.

Probable Pitchers

Owen Stevenson (San Francisco) is listed as Chatham's starter. The right-hander has been effective through two appearances, logging a 2.89 ERA. Stevenson has allowed six hits and issued one walk over 9.1 innings.

Joshua Roberge, a right-hander out of Southern New Hampshire University, will aim to get back on track against the Anglers. Roberge's first start was his best, when he allowed one run over four innings, but he's surrendered six runs in the eight innings since then, raising his ERA to 5.25.

Chatham Players to Watch

Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) extended his hitting streak to 11 games Tuesday with a single in the third inning. He later walked and scored for his second run of the game.

Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) has recorded a hit in each of his past two games, and after drawing three walks Tuesday, the outfielder has reached base in five of his past nine plate appearances. DeLeo has the second-most hits on the Anglers and is tied for the team lead in home runs.

Falmouth Players to Watch

Colby Halter has done it all this summer. The left-handed-hitting infielder is tied for the league lead in home runs with seven, is batting .325 ' fifth-best in the league ' and has stolen 12 bases ' tied for the sixth-most in the league. Halter is 5 for 8 over his past two games with five runs, two doubles, one home run, three RBIs and three walks.

Alex Mooney paces the Commodores in hits and played in Saturday's Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game. The infielder hit .292 as a freshman at Duke and has found similar success in the Cape League, batting .272 with a .337 on-base percentage.

Stat to Know ' 156

Chatham and Falmouth's offenses are tied for the league lead with 156 walks each. The Commodores have capitalized on their free passes to a greater extent, batting 18 points higher and slugging 50 points higher than the Anglers, which has led to 25 more runs than Chatham.

On the flip side, Chatham pitchers have walked the second-most batters this season, while Falmouth sits in the middle of the pack.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers mustered five hits in a 4-1 loss to Falmouth on June 21 at Veterans Field. Chatham starter Will Carsten allowed four runs on five hits before Ben Hampton (West Virginia) threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out three along the way.

The Anglers' only run came on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, bringing home Nelson Rivera, who led off the frame with a single.
