Game 35 Preview: Chatham vs. Orleans

Now surging, Chatham (10-17-7) hosts Orleans (13-17-4) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Veterans Field. After four consecutive wins, the Anglers have pulled within one point of fourth-place Harwich and three points of third-place Orleans as the race for a playoff spot intensifies with 10 games remaining in the regular season.

Probable Pitchers

Owen Stevenson (San Francisco) is in line to make his first start with Chatham. In his only other appearance this season, Stevenson allowed one run on three hits over 4.1 innings. The right-hander had a 4.57 ERA in 69 innings with the University of San Francisco.

Donye Evans will make his third start against the Anglers this season. Chatham has not scored against Evans in nine innings, but Orleans is 1-1 in his two starts against the Anglers. Chatham has mustered two hits against Evans, but the right-hander has issued six walks.

Chatham Players to Watch

Chuck Ingram (Wichita State) has roped an RBI double in two of his past three games. He's recorded three hits and three walks over his past four games to increase his on-base percentage by 64 points.

Jack Rubenstein (Georgia Tech) has continued to swing a hot bat. He went 2 for 4 with an RBI double in Chatham's 11-2 win over Wareham on Wednesday. Rubenstein is hitting .353 with five RBIs and three extra-base hits in 17 at-bats since joining the Anglers.

Orleans Players to Watch

Luke Keaschall has been among Orleans' most productive hitters all season, slashing .286/.359/.429. Keaschall has belted four homers and driven in a team-leading 15 runs. He went 0 for 3 against Brewster on Wednesday, breaking a five-game hit streak. Still, he recorded a walk, extending his streak of games reaching base safely to nine.

Isaac Humphrey is 4 for 11 with three runs scored over his past three games, raising his average to .266. The outfielder has logged a hit in all four of his games against Chatham this season.

Stat to Know ' 25.2

Chatham has scored 25.2% of its runs this season in its past four contests, which make up just 11.8% of its games played. The Anglers scored 11 runs in their win over Wareham on Wednesday, although they were assisted by four Gatemen errors, which resulted in five unearned runs.

'You have to have walks, you have to have errors to score a lot in this league,' Holliday said after Wednesday's win. 'You're seeing us on a little bit of a roll right now.'

Last Time They Played

Cooper Ingle (Clemson) was the hero in Chatham's 3-2 win over Orleans on July 9. With no outs and runners on first and third, Ingle lined a walk-off single to center field, plating Guy Garibay Jr. (Rice).

Garibay drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh before Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) brought Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) home with an infield single. Ben Hampton (West Virginia) and Tommy Molsky combined to allow six hits over the course of the game, with Molsky earning the win.
