Game 34 Preview: Chatham at Wareham

The Anglers' recent stretch of games has come with a series of firsts at the most opportune time. In their last three games, they won their first road game, started their first win streak and reached nine runs for the first time this season. Now, Chatham heads to Wareham, who have lost or tied in its last four games, to continue its playoff push.

Probable Pitchers

Roman Kimball (Notre Dame) will start for the Anglers, making his second start on the mound. He's dominated in his little time with Chatham as he's not given up a run so far. Kimball has struck out 13 batters in seven innings.

Jacob Carvey will start for the Gatemen, recording a 3.72 ERA in five games this season. He struck out eight batters in his most previous appearance, which was a 5-4 loss to Cotuit. He's walked six batters in 16.1 innings.

Chatham Players to Watch

Manager Tom Holliday said Guy Garibay Jr. (Rice) is Chatham's 'igniter,' playing the leadoff position against the Whitecaps on Tuesday. Garibay has notched five hits in the Anglers last three games, bringing in six runs.

Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) helped bring in two runs on Tuesday, although the first was uncredited since he had hit into a double play. Brown brought in Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) with a triple to right field in the bottom of the third. He's had hits in eight of his last 10 appearances with the Anglers.

Wareham Players to Watch

Hogan Windish leads the Gatemen with 20 RBIs on 30 hits this season. He has a .265 batting average, and he's walked 11 times. Windish brought in 60 runs and rocketed 16 homes runs with UNC Greensboro in 2022.

Anderson sits at second on the team in RBIs with 14. He has the second-best batting average (.287) on Wareham's active roster with a total of 129 at-bats. Anderson recorded 66 hits, including 12 doubles, with Nebraska this year.

Stat to Know ' 4.41

Wareham has the worst ERA in the league, also allowing the most hits from all of its opponents (273). This should benefit the Anglers as they've averaged six runs per game in their last three matchups. If their bullpen delivers on Wednesday, Chatham should easily pick up its fourth straight win.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers offense scored in three different innings in their last trip to Spillane Field. But the Gatemen fought back to tie the game at 5-5 before it was concluded due to the lights not working at their fullest capacity.

The scoring started in the top of the second when Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) drove in Caden Grice (Clemson) with a single up the middle. DeLeo scored after Mitchell Daly successfully placed a sacrifice bunt, and Hayden Travinski (LSU) ended the frame with a solo home run.

'It's always taken a couple of weeks for guys to find the sweet spot, but now it's like the guys at the top of our order are playing baseball,' Holliday said. 'We're moving runners. We're bunting. We're running. We're generating offense.'
