Game 32 Preview: Harwich at Chatham

Chatham won its first road game of the season on Saturday, maintaining a 6-2 lead over Yarmouth-Dennis before the game was concluded due to darkness at Red Wilson Field. The Anglers head back home, facing Harwich, who is six points above the last-placed Anglers in the East division.

Probable Pitchers

Nicholas Regalado (Florida SouthWestern) will start for the Anglers, making his sixth appearance on the mound. He's second on the team with 23 strikeouts, posting a 3.43 ERA so far this season. Regalado's best performance came against the Mariners, when he gave up one run and struck out six batters on July 6.

Jonathan Santucci will start for the Mariners, holding a 1.65 ERA in four appearances this season. He hasn't pitched against the Anglers yet, last coming onto the mound a week ago against Brewster. Santucci struck out six batters in five innings.

Chatham Players to Watch

Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) has improved on his slow start to the season, posting a ''.345 batting average over his past eight games. He went 2 for 4 from the plate on Saturday against the Red Sox, bringing in a run in the top of the third.

Guy Garibay Jr. (Rice) provided the most spark for the Anglers offense against Y-D, launching a bases-clearing knock into right-center field. Garibay Jr. has three home runs so far this season, and he's tied for second on the squad in RBIs with 11.

Harwich Players to Watch

Nick Goodwin leads the Mariners with 30 hits, bringing in 19 runs so far this season. He has the most at-bats on the team, notching two hits and walking once on July 6 against Chatham. Goodwin had 11 home runs with 34 hits at Kansas State in 2022.

Chris Newell finished with a .323 batting average in the Mariners' most previous matchup against the Anglers, striking out once with two hits. He has recorded 13 hits this season, scoring eight runs.

Stat to Know ' 6

Chatham is six points behind the Mariners in the standings for the East division, needing to pass them in order to clinch a playoff spot. Harwich is heading into the game on a two-game losing streak while the Anglers are looking for their second win in back-to-back days this season.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers led 4-1 entering the ninth inning the last time they played Harwich. Carlos Rey (Nova Southeastern) had allowed one hit over three innings, but he walked the first batter he faced and hit the third batter, bringing the tying run to the plate with one out.

Chatham manager Tom Holliday brought in Brian Holiday (Florida Southwestern State), his de facto closer. But he never had control of his breaking ball and a wild pitch and a passed ball brought two runs home. Chris Newell completed the comeback, lacing a single to center field to tie the game at 4-4.

'We let one get away,' Holliday said. 'That was a big game for us. It was ours. Four (to) one in the ninth ' you gotta win that game.'
