Game 30 Preview: Y-D at Chatham

Chatham will be without manager Tom Holliday, shortstop Marcus Brown and second baseman Roc Riggio in tonight's game. Following a controversial balk call in the ninth inning to bring in Bourne's first run, Holliday approached first base umpire Jason Klump, who made the call.

'(The umpire) said that (Rey) had to designate himself throwing out of the windup with a runner on third,' Chatham pitching coach Jay Powell said. 'I've never heard of it. I'm not saying it's not a rule, but I've never heard of it."

Klump pointed at Brown and Riggio after the Braves' walked off with a grand slam home run, signaling their ejection as well. Randy Whisler will serve at the Anglers' acting manager against Yarmouth-Dennis.

Cole Carrigg leads the Red Sox with a .304 batting average. His best performance came in a 6-6 tie to Harwich, where he recorded three hits and brought in two runs. The San Diego State senior is also tied for the most RBIs on the team with 14.

Luke Shliger sits behind Carrig with a .293, tied with the most walks on the team with 15. He has 17 hits this season.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers blew a lead twice against the Red Sox in their most previous matchup. In the fourth inning, Riggio gave Chatham its first lead of the game after looping a two-RBI single into left field. But Trevor Martin gave up four runs in the ensuing frame.

Chatham momentarily came back with four runs in the sixth inning and Caden Grice provided three straight 1-2-3 innings. But he lost control of his slider and fastball in the bottom of the ninth and the Red Sox tied the game.

'That's the best game we've played,' manager Tom Holliday said. 'We didn't quit, we didn't roll over, we played until the end.'
