Game 19 Preview: Chatham at Harwich

Chatham dropped its fourth game in a row against Bourne on Friday, going 1-9-1 in its last 11 contests. The Anglers head back on the road for the next two days, beginning against East division opponent Harwich. The Mariners are just above Chatham in the division rankings with 13 points compared to the Anglers' 10.

Probable Pitchers

Cy Nielson (BYU) will start for the Anglers, returning to Chatham this year after posting a 6.46 ERA in eight games last season. Nielson didn't get many opportunities to start in 2022, pitching in 33.2 innings with a 3.21 ERA. He last started versus Brewster, letting up just one hit in five innings. Nielson also came in during Chatham's first matchup against Harwich, allowing four hits and two runs.

Liam Sullivan could get the ball for the Mariners, notching 10 strikeouts in five innings last Sunday against Wareham. He has a 0.87 ERA so far this season.

Chatham Players to Watch

Jake DeLeo (Georgia Tech) notched a two-run homer in Friday's loss to Bourne, last going out of the park with a grand slam at home against Brewster. He leads the team with eight RBIs this season. DeLeo is also third on the team with a .267 batting average.

Matt Hogan (South Carolina) leads Chatham with a .292 batting average. Still, he's only had 24 at-bats, starting in some games while coming in as a pinch hitter in others. Hogan has seven hits with one RBI.

Harwich Players to Watch

Tommy Seidl has 14 hits this season, including one home run, with a total of four RBIs. He sits at third on the team with a .264 batting average, and he's third with 53 at-bats. Seidl's best performance came in a 6-5 loss to Wareham, when he had three hits and didn't strike out.

Nick Goodwin leads the team with 12 RBIs, sitting right behind Seidl with a .262 batting average. He leads the Mariners with 65 at-bats with 17 hits. Goodwin had 11 home runs with 34 hits at Kansas State in 2022.

Stat to Know ' .276

Harwich has the second worst on-base percentage in the league, something that should benefit the Anglers bullpen. The Mariners are also second-to-last with 16 doubles so far this year and third from the bottom with 109 hits.

Last Time They Played

Following a shutout loss in its season opener against Cotuit, the Anglers erupted offensively, defeating Harwich 5-2. The difference maker was Chatham's bullpen, who held Harwich scoreless over the final five innings.

In his first start, Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) launched a line-drive single into center field, bringing in two more runs and giving Chatham a 3-1 lead.

'It was a long at-bat,' Brown said. 'Really, (Fajardo) just kept throwing me fastballs in, change-ups, and I was just trying to stay middle and not be so early on that change-up and finally got a fastball elevated and hit it pretty well.'
