Chatham Anglers announce 2021 team award winners

Before its 11-6 win over Brewster to close the 2021 season, the Chatham Anglers announced their annual team awards in a pregame ceremony led by general manager Mike Geylin and president Steve West. Here are the recipients.

The Willard Nicholas Most Outstanding Player Award: Josh Rivera

The Willard Nicholas Most Outstanding Player Award is named for a person who selflessly volunteered his time to help maintain the franchise when it needed him the most.

Josh Rivera (Florida) played in 35 of the Anglers' 38 games this year, batting .248 while playing outstanding defense at shortstop.

The Ed Baird Outstanding Pitcher Award: Adam Tulloch

The Ed Baird Most Outstanding Pitcher Award is named for the team's current treasurer. Baird is a Cape League Hall of Famer who pitched three summers in Chatham, including on the 1967 championship team. Ed's 0.45 ERA in 1965 is still a team record.

Adam Tulloch (West Virginia) was drafted by the Dodgers in the 17th round but elected to return to college. He began the season with 14 straight scoreless innings and led the team with 43 total strikeouts.

The Zane Carlson Most Outstanding Relief Pitcher: Trevor Martin

The Zane Carlson Most Outstanding Relief Pitcher Award is named for a player who saved 34 games for the Anglers between 2001 and 2003, becoming the CCBL's first player to record double-digit saves in three consecutive seasons and establishing a new top mark for the league.

Trevor Martin (Oklahoma State) started Tuesday, but he appeared out of the bullpen six times this season, totaling a 1.46 ERA in those appearances. Between his roles as a starter and reliever, Martin struck out 27 batters across 19.1 innings.

The Silver Slugger Award: Lyle Miller-Green

This award is given to the player that displays a great amount of power at the plate and boosts his lineup and team as a result.

Lyle Miller-Green's (Chipola) 28 RBI led the league, his eight home runs are third, and his .464 slugging percentage is fifth in the East Division.

The Ed Lyons Coaches Award: Matt Hogan

The Ed Lyons Coaches Award is given to the player or players that display a great level of respect and care for the game and will do whatever they can to help Chatham on and off the field. It is named for former Chatham A coach and Cape Cod League Hall of Fame inductee Ed Lyons, who appreciated players who "grind" any way they can to help the team win a game.

Matt Hogan (Vanderbilt) joined the Anglers in July after the College World Series and made an immediate impact both on and off the field. He patrolled right field for the Anglers, tracking fly balls past the foul line and toward the fence, and batted .227 despite a 5-for-38 stretch to end the season that dropped his average from .300.
