Nearly 30 current Anglers played in the field of 64 in the NCAA Tournament over the past two weeks. Seven players on five teams advanced past the opening round, and now Dylan Carmouche (Mississippi State), Maxwell Romero Jr. (Vanderbilt), Sam Highfill (NC State) and Dawson Merryman (Texas) will play in the College World Series.

Here are some highlights from the regional and super regional rounds, as well as players to watch next week in Omaha.

Unseeded NC State takes down No. 1 Arkansas

Arkansas was the team to beat all season, and Highfill and the Wolfpack did just that in the super regionals. Highfill was the winning pitcher in Game 2 of the three-game series, striking out five and giving up three runs over 6 1/3 innings.

Highfill gave up a home run to 2021 Angler Brady Slavens, as the junior rocketed a solo shot to center, his 14th of the season, that cut into the Wolfpack's 6-3 lead. The Razorbacks fell short, though, losing Game 2, 6-5, and Game 3, 3-2.

In Game 1, Patrick Wicklander gave up one run and struck out six in a six-inning outing. He took home the win in the Razorbacks' 21-2 beating of the Wolfpack. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Slavens hit a double down the right field line, driving in two. He scored from second following a pitching change and then ensuing single.

Near-spotless relief in Miami

Although Miami lost in the regional round, Daniel Federman and Victor Mederos combined for five innings of relief ' giving up one hit, no runs and allowing just two base runners. Mederos was perfect in his inning against South Florida, while Federman went 3 1/3 against South Alabama.

Other notable regional performances

Cam Chick started all five of Nebraska's games in the regional round, with multi-hit games against Arkansas and NJIT. After a three-RBI performance against Northeastern in the regional opener, Chick hit a single off Wicklander and followed it up with a seventh-inning double. Against NJIT, he hit an inside the park home run to score the 10th run of the game for the Huskers.

Kevin Parada had four hits in four games for Georgia Tech, including a home run in the bottom of the 11th inning of the Yellow Jackets' loss to Vanderbilt. Parada also walked in the first inning and scored.

Josh Rivera scored Florida's lone run of the game in its loss to South Alabama. The freshman shortstop singled twice, accounting for a quarter of the Gators' baserunners and two of their six hits all game.
