Solis Dominates Gatemen
Freshman Sammy Solis continued an impressive start to the 2008 season with a 2-0 win over the Wareham Gatemen at Spillane Field Tuesday night. With the game beginning an hour and twenty minutes late due to rain, Solis was unfazed. The first batter he faced, Connor Rowe, bounced a ball to short. It looked as if Rowe would be retired, but first baseman Kyle Bellows broke his glove on the play, allowing Rowe to reach safely on the lone Gatemen base hit. Solis hit the third batter, and a wild pitch put runners on second and third before he struck out the final two batters.

The A's offense supplied Solis with what he needed in the top of the second off of starter Brandon Workman. Robert Papenhause walked, and Cory Olson, the newest member of the team, was hit by a pitch. That left two on for Grant Green, who powered a double to left field that scored both.

The 2-0 lead was all the offense Solis would need. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits. Throwing 92 pitches, he won his second game of the season. He turned it over to the USC portion of the bullpen, as Kevin Couture worked a perfect 8th, and Brad Boxberger picked up his third save of the season in the ninth inning.

With the 2-0 win, the A's bring their record to 4-6, heading into their first scheduled day off of the season. They'll take another trip to the western portion of the Cape as they visit the Bourne Braves Thursday night at 7. A's Extra gets underway at 6:40 on chathamas.com
