Game 5 preview: Yarmouth-Dennis at Chatham

Coming off its first shutout of the season, Chatham will close out a three-game homestand against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Following its first loss of the season on Wednesday — 1-0 to Falmouth — the Anglers rattled off five runs and their first long ball of the season against Harwich on Friday. Chatham’s pitching staff allowed seven hits and five walks to the Mariners, but no runs on the night.

Probable pitchers

Kolby Kubichek (Texas) will start on the mound for the A’s. The righty appeared in the Anglers opener and dominated Hyannis in three innings of work. Against the Harbor Hawks, Kubichek allowed two hits and a walk with no runs while striking out five of the 12 batters he faced. The Bryan, Texas native pitched 18 innings for Texas this season with 15 strikeouts.

Mason Hazelwood (Kentucky), Kubichek’s roommate this summer, will pitch the middle innings against the Red Sox. Hazelwood also debuted against the Harbor Hawks, posting similar numbers to Kubichek — two hits and one walk allowed in three scoreless frames. He also fanned four batters in the season-opening win.

Ty Madden (Texas), the second Longhorn on the mound on Saturday, will likely close for the Anglers. Manager Tom Holliday said he’ll stick to three innings for each pitcher after he used a closer in Friday’s 5-0 win over the Mariners. Madden started for the A’s against Hyannis and his up-and-down outing allowed two earned runs. The 6-foot-3 righty struck out four batters in the comeback win, as well.

Ryne Moore (Old Dominion) will get the start for the Red Sox on Saturday. The sophomore from Limerick, Pennsylvania, will make his Cape League debut after a 4.01 ERA for the Monarchs. In 15 appearances, Moore went 6-3 with 53 strikeouts.

Stat to know — 24

The Anglers pitching staff has not allowed an earned run in 24 consecutive innings. Its last earned run came in the third inning against Cotuit off Jack Conlon (San Jacinto).

Last season

Chatham and Y-D split their six game series down the middle, 2-2-2, but the Red Sox outscored the A’s, 29-21.
