Game 12 Preview: Chatham at Falmouth

For the first time in 2018, the Chatham Anglers will travel to Falmouth to take on the Commodores on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The Anglers (6-3-2) are coming off a thrilling 8-6 win over the Bourne Braves last night. After falling behind 6-0, Chatham scored eight unanswered runs to bury the Braves. The seventh-run came in the bottom of the eighth when a pitch, which was meant to be ball three during an intentional walk sequence, went over the head of the catcher and Branden Fryman (Samford) strolled in from third base.

Bourne managed to load the bases in the top of the ninth, but Greg Veliz (Miami) got a strikeout and a ground out to end the rally and win the game.

“This'll probably turn this bunch of guys into a team,” Holliday said. “They had to fight from behind, and they did. They could have rolled over. They didn't do that, they played all night.”

Falmouth (2-8) comes into Saturday’s game riding a six-game losing streak and the worst record in the CCBL. The Commodores had a chance to end their losing stretch Friday in Hyannis. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the tenth when Davis Wendzel (Baylor) hit an RBI double off Jack Little (Stanford) to win the game for the Harbor Hawks.

While Falmouth’s pitching has been average to the start the season, its hitting has been the worst the league. The Commodores have posted a league-worst a .191 batting average, .240 slugging percentage and have scored 29 runs. No hitter currently on the roster has a batting average over .258.

Jack Conlon (San Jacinto) will make his second start of the season Saturday. The rising sophomore went four innings in his previous start against Bourne, giving up only two runs and striking out three batters.

Friday’s game was the fifth time this season the A’s scored seven or more runs. Kyle McCann (Georgia Tech) — who helped the team rally by going 2-for-3 — said the team stayed positive in order to win the game.

“We got great team chemistry already, but to keep winning like this, it's awesome for us,” McCann said.
