2017 NCAA Tournament Update

Chatham, Mass. — Over the weekend, six teams advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. Ten places remain up for grabs today, which marks the last day of regional competition.

LSU, Louisville and Wake Forest have already secured spots, meaning that four of this season’s Anglers will compete in the Super Regional round of the tournament. Caleb Gilbert (LSU, So. RHP), Josh Stowers (Louisville, So. OF), Adam Wolf (Louisville, So. LHP) and John Aiello (Wake Forest, So. 3B/SS) will take the field June 9.

LSU cruised past Texas Southern, Southeastern Louisiana and Rice for its 23rd NCAA Regional title. Pitcher Caleb Gilbert denied Texas Southern scoring Friday, throwing six strikeouts over 2.2 innings in the victory.

Louisville topped Radford, Oklahoma and Xavier to clinch a spot in the Super Regionals. Josh Stowers fueled the Cardinals with seven RBIs and eight runs in three games, including a three-run home run against Xavier. Adam Wolf kept Oklahoma at bay Saturday, pitching two scoreless innings of relief.

Wake Forest swept UMBC and West Virginia, advancing to the Super Regionals for the first time since 1999. John Aiello notched two RBIs and a pair of runs in the contests.

NCAA Super Regional play opens June 9. Eight teams will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska June 17-27.
