Anglers Halt Three-Game Skid At Hyannis

by Scott Braun, 07-15-2009

Chatham starter Shawn Tolleson limited the Hyannis Mets to two runs in six innings picking up his second win of the season. The 4-2 victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Anglers.

Whit Merrifield singled to lead off the game and was brought home by a Rick Oropesa RBI-double to put Chatham ahead 1-0.

The Anglers extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth when Matt Perry scored thanks to a Steven Brooks RBI-double.

Hyannis answered right back in the bottom of the inning matching Chatham's two runs with consecutive RBI-singles from Jackie Bradley Jr. and Cole Johnson.

Steven Brooks struck again in the seventh inning with another RBI-double that plated Dean Green. Brooks later came home on a wild pitch to give the Anglers a 4-2 lead. Brooks finished the game with three doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored.

Chatham's relief staff did the rest of the work in preserving a 4-2 lead. Jesse Hahn showed his usual stuff baffling hitters in 2.1 scoreless innings. Hahn has still only allowed one hit in 9.1 innings pitched.

Closer Russell Brewer came on to record the final two outs for his sixth save of the season.

The Anglers defeated the Mets 4-2 one night after suffering their third straight loss at home, a 4-3 deficit.

With the Eastern Division race heating up every game has become more important for the Anglers. Wednesday night it will be a home matchup against the Falmouth Commodores at 7PM. Anglers Extra the Pregame Show starts up at 6:40PM.
